December 2014

December is here! We are feeling back to normal after our bout with the stomach bug. Tate has not been himself since we got back from Thanksgiving though and at the time I didn't attribute it to the bug but looking back we feel like that's probably what had him out of sorts. We held off on trying solids with him around Thanksgiving b/c of the illness and wanting to be sure we knew whether something wasn't agreeing with him or that he might just be sick. But when December rolled around we thought maybe he was just hungry and that was making him cranky so we gave it a shot. He did great with everything we tried but I was not very consistent with it with our daily routine. He also began not nursing as well around the time we were all sick so we'd been supplementing with formula some too.

We ventured out for the Lighted Christmas Parade. Kai enjoyed it pretty well, but got bored before it was over. Penelope and Tate really didn't care for the noise that came along with many of the floats.

The kids loved getting out Christmas decorations and music. We didn't get much out last year. They wanted the music playing in their room and the car all the time. We enjoyed finding Christmas light displays to go look at. And Penelope mostly played with the ornaments like they were new toys until we managed to get them all actually on the tree. Several suffered from all the extra love. Tate was not on the move yet, but did manage to roll himself under the tree one day while I had gone to the bathroom.

On the 16th Tate woke with fever and off to the doctor we went to discover he had the flu! Poor baby was completely miserable. Then Penelope went down with fever on Wednesday night. At some point I caught a lighter version too. I did get to go to Kai's Christmas party at school and enjoyed that. We still kept our plan to head to Birmingham to celebrate Christmas with the Armstrong family on the 19th. We thought the kids were on the mend and were not interested in missing another family holiday bc of illness. Turns out they were pretty uncomfortable the whole time we were gone. Penelope would feel fine and play hard and then she'd sleep for crazy amounts of time. Tate had trouble sleeping at all the whole trip and that was when we ended up switching him to formula.

We were glad to get back home and celebrated a low key Christmas at home with lots of nose wiping and coughing.

We enjoyed some quiet days at home, celebrated our 11th Anniversary, and then piled back in to the car on New Years Eve and drove down to St. Augustine to have our Baugher family Christmas at my brother's house to bring in the new year. We actually stayed awake to see it this year!
