Friday morning we had cleaning to do and errands to run. Cleaning is always more fun when I have help and Michael was a big help Friday with doing some minor cleaning around the house because we had company coming to stay with us (yay!). Then I had planned to run errands alone, but it worked with Kai's schedule for us to all just go out and have lunch and run our errands together. Kai ate a great lunch at Wendy's with us and then we did our running around. We made it back home just in time for his nap and then were set to wait on the Steeles to arrive!
Frank, Leigh Ann, and Noelle were stopping through Birmingham on their was to see some family and spent Friday afternoon and night with us. Noelle is a month older than Kai and it is fun to see them interact. We hope they will continue to get to see each other often as they grow up. The kids played in the kiddie pool and Michael cooked us a yummy dinner. Then we went to stroll around at the botanical gardens even though it was really the kids' bedtime. It was so nice out and they had a lot of fun toddling around together. We attempted a pic to the two of them several times to no avail. One year olds are ON THE MOVE constantly! After we put the kids down for bed we broke out the Wii for some mommies and daddies play time! We stayed up too late laughing with (and at) each other. We are grateful for friends like the Steeles! (and for their willingness to travel so much.) They left while we were still in our jammies on Saturday and then we tried to figure out what to do with ourselves.
We did a whole lot of nothing most of the day Saturday (including some naps) and then got ready to go to our small group party. We enjoyed tons of food and fun with friends at the Brookers' house and were so glad to have something fun to do for the 4th. Kai had a great time watching the older kids play and rocking in the kid size rocking chair which was pretty entertaining for everyone. We did some fireworks at their house before heading over to watch the big show that their neighborhood puts on. Kai seemed very interested in the fireworks at first but then seemed a little afraid (these were not much more than big sparklers). The first big boom during the big show, Kai let out a terrified cry and then snuggled in to me and did not move for the rest of the time. It was well past his bed time, but he didn't go to sleep it was just like he needed to know that he was safe. It was pretty sweet, but I'm sorry he didn't enjoy the show! He feel asleep just before we got home which was an extremely late night for him.
We've had another relaxing day today. Serving this morning (nursery and "connection central") and then lunch and naps. Kai has been playing so hard. He's really into this red squishy ball that he has and carries it around saying "Ba" and then tossing it (in no real direction). He's been very entertained by the dogs the past couple of days thinking they are absolutely hilarious. This is just fun to watch for us. =) And he's back down to sleep! Ready to start a new week tomorrow!
